I’m not really sure what you mean by “timbaland” beats… he uses a variety of sounds, so it’s not like there’s one plugin that he goes to when he wants to make another hit or anything…

I like Drumatic 3. It’s a very configurable vst drum machine. Ideally, though, I like to split it up between two different channels, one for cymbals and the other for everything else.

Hmmm. You can try the link below to look for plugins, it’s a great resource for all kinds of free (and commercial) plugins.

I like SoloString for plucky sounds (and to cop a guitar sound if I don’t have one handy and I want to at least approximate a guitar melody).

I use SIR for my convolution needs most of the time, but there are other convolution plugins that I use too… Voxengo makes a good cab simulator (Boogex, I think it’s called) that can load custom impulses. Convolution is sick – you can use it as reverb, or you can use it as eq, or as both. If you think of a room as having a certain signature “feel” or “sound” to it, that sound can be represented with an impulse response – and you can apply it to your sounds to make them sound like they’re in a church, or a stadium, or a cardboard box, whatever. It can go a step further – anything audio has a “sound” … a mixer, a microphone, a speaker. Get the impulse response for it and you can make your sound (song, effect, instrument, vox, whatever) has been recorded with a nice tube microphone, or your guitar is blasting through a nice mesa boogie cab, or to even give your bassline the subtle sound of having been recorded through a vintage 1176 compressor. All you have to do is find the impulse response for it, and learn how to use it properly….

I use Reaper, I gave up on FL a long time ago. Reaper comes with a programming languaged called JesuSonic (JS) built into it, so I can write my own plugins or customize the ones that come with it, so I haven’t been searching for so many lately… plus I mostly work on mixing and mastering more than sound production anyways…

That’s about all I got for now. Good luck!

    Saul

Quite insightful submit. Never belief that it was this simple in fact. I have spent an excellent deal of my time hunting for anyone to explain this subject clearly and youre man or woman that ever did that. Kudos in your direction! Persevere.
